At Quick Mortgages, we’re proud to back the brave men and women of the police force, not just with mortgage advice, but out in the community too. On Saturday 21st June 2025, we had the honour of sponsoring the West Mercia Police rugby team at the Pershore Charity Touch Rugby Festival, a fantastic local event in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Held at Pershore Rugby Club, the charity event brought together teams from across the region for a full day of touch rugby. Played under FIT rules, matches were fast-paced, inclusive, and competitive – with teams of all backgrounds including workplace, club, junior, and third-age teams getting involved.
West Mercia Police: Unbeaten Champions
The West Mercia Police team, proudly sponsored by Quick Mortgages, delivered a dominant performance throughout the round-robin tournament:
- 🏆 20–5 win vs Pershore Touch Rugby
- 🏆 50–0 win vs Trefy Black
- 🏆 15–5 win vs UTP
- 🏆 45–10 win vs Trefy Pink
- 🏆 20–10 win vs Forest of Dean
Their final match against Forest of Dean was a decider between two unbeaten teams. In a true show of sportsmanship, the team disallowed their own try after spotting an offside – an honourable move that defines the character of the force.
Star Performances
- Mark Burrell scored multiple hat-tricks
- Jack Harding found the try line in every game
- Andy Kilmister led the squad to victory, lifting the trophy at the end of the day
It was a gruelling but rewarding day with over 10,000 steps recorded across the first three matches alone – testament to the team’s tireless effort, especially under tough weather conditions that saw sun, rain, and some comical slips from those in trainers!
Community, Charity, and Commitment
Organised in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the festival showcased the power of community sport to raise funds and bring people together. We’re especially proud of Dave Knight, who managed and played for the team, and has been instrumental in uniting officers across the force through sport.
Even our own Henry Wright got in on the action, joining as an honorary team member for the day – a special highlight for all of us at Quick Mortgages.
Why We Support the Police
As proud supporters of the Police Federation, Quick Mortgages is committed to helping officers, staff, and their families at every stage – whether that’s finding the right mortgage, getting on the ladder, or funding a move. Events like this are exactly where we want to be: local, meaningful, and all about giving back to those who give so much.
